Celebration Time is HERE!!!

Ya’ll… I am soooo EXCITED to share with you… this shot!!!

I took this shot this morning and promptly moved the quilt! lol

But it is soooo exciting to NOW be on the downhill slide.. yes it is just 1 week shy of 3 months to get halfway on this quilt but there is a LOT of quilting here! lol  And to be honest this is my passion but life happens to get in the way for even a daily slow stitcher like me!

Linking this great progress to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching Linky HERE!  Today she is sharing some fave tools she is currently using on a project…. so here are some of mine I am using on Starlight.. Starbright!
You will see my needle keeper, hemostats (needle puller) scissors, thimble, and thread (not pictured)! lol

I also wanted to share my personal feedback on a couple thimbles I recently got…

I ordered BOTH thimbles from Walmart.com site to store for FREE shipping from the supplier…  each took about a week to arrive and I picked them up the same day to save trips…

First is the thimble I am already currently using on my upper hand middle finger…

It is made by Clover and is made of brass the packaging says… it is a heavy weight metal thimble that wrapps around your finger.. I tend to quilt using my fingernail so this protects my fingernail and when I want to stab stitch through a tough seam it does the trick without getting bent or anything… or bending out of shape from how I set it for my finger… overall very pleased with this thimble… but it was too long for my thumb!

I do quilt with my thumb also especially since I went to frame quilting… so I was hoping the other brand of thimble that was metal that I would try would work to reshape for my thumb….

The Dritz thimble is a little shorter in length… it also says it is made of brass but is a silver color of metal.  The dimples on this thimble are not as deep as the Clover thimble… and once shaped for my thumb .. no matter what we did to position it … it dug into my thumb cuticle… but even aside from that it just didn’t work on my thumb.. so the search continues… and I try to use my thumb for quilting sparingly for now.. lol!

Here is a shot I took of them in their packaging that they came in…

They were both about $10 each when I purchased them about 2 weeks ago… so not bad on price for either… Overall they are very different though…

So I hope this review of thimbles has been helpful to you in deciding what may or may not work for you but holes in fingernails at the pace I quilt just isn’t an option anymore! Hahaha!

Now one other thimble of sorts I do use almost every time I quilt these days is an UNDERHAND thimble… (Yep I ordered this from Walmart.com too!  (Site to store for FREE shipping in about 10 days time!!!)

It resides on my left (underhand) middle finger)… when I need to feel the needle for some reason I use my pointer fingertip… but this way my underhand doesn’t turn into hamburger meat! lol

Okay so enough about the necessities of letting your hands last for you 🙂

Have a blessed day and thanks for visiting… I continue to stay really busy so keep visiting… I will have more to share soon ya’ll!

Thinking ahead :)

November conjures up so much each year.. First of all

It is the month I am THANKFUL!!

I am thankful to have found an under finger thimble (more on that later in this post)
I also started using a metal thimble by Clover on my middle top finger this year and my hands enjoy the break for sure! lol
I am thankful that YLI thread is so easy to use and make small stitches with 🙂
And I love the $10 I spent on a big jar of Bag Balm for my fingers and hands!  It is delicious feeling and non greasy at all!!!!
Finally I am grateful for the background which is my Current Project…

Current Project…

My current project is Kimber’s Memory Quilt… I am so close to binding I can taste it! lol  I am stitching with every spare moment right now and using that underhand thimble on my pointer or middle finger … I rotate depending on comfort for stitching!

I am currently 1/2 done with the border and just have the binding to attach and stitch down after that!!!

Here is my secret to being able to get more stitches in 🙂

You can go to the website on the card and order one if you are interested… I LOVE LOVE LOVE it for my underfinger… took some getting used to like anything else new and different… but my fingers aren’t hamburger meat looking either and that makes me HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!! lol

To 2016 🙂

Just ordered my planner for next year!

I am planning my “motto” for my blog for the year…
But I am not saying goodbye to 2015 so quickly…

I have graph papered ideas galore right now… and a quilt half made in the sewing room … on the design wall waiting to be finished… I have lots more fun in store 🙂

Are you happy with all you are accomplishing in 2015???

So until my next post… are you ready for 2016???

A weekend of accomplishments :)

Since my last post I have been busy personally and quiltily! lol

First I want to wish you each a GREAT DAY!!!  I found this on a friend’s facebook feed and knew you might want to see it too!  🙂  Her nickname is Sunshine!  and you know I love the sunshine anyway … LOL!

Quiltily…

On Kimber’s Memory Quilt I am about to finish this blue tshirt block…

I am really jazzed about my progress on this in the midst of other things going on.. but for some reason since I added the piecing of the blocks to my plate of activities I seem to pick up my needle and thread more often when taking a break from that or house chores!  S o it is flying by 🙂  Yippee!

Here are the blocks I have started piecing on my Gloria .. my 301A sewing machine.. called Anita’s Arrowhead…

You start simply enough with 2 contrasting 10″ blocks… then you sew them together around the edges.. and cut them up… forgot to get a pic of the cutting part! lol

then press them open.. I press all to the dark..

then sew them in sections together… here is my first chaining run of stitching..

then sew those last 2 seams..nesting intersections as you go…

trim down.. my two 10″ blocks gives me one 11 1/2″ block to put in a project.. so 11″ finished it will be 🙂

And here is a drawing of the quilt to be I am calling Take 2

This is more for my memory than for you all.. but it shows how I design a quilt.. as I rarely ever can follow a pattern for making a quilt to the letter! lol

The center block will be hand embroidered in some fun loud colored thread to yet be decided… her name, birth date and time, height and weight… her mom Keashia, may write this information so I can copy her handwriting as my font style for embroidering this info 🙂  I am very excited and just hope she can decide how to write it and send it to me ! lol

But I only have 2 or 3 of the blocks made.. so I better get to making more.. they are all cut out and ready to sew together!!!

My review on making this block is that directions could be a bit more clear that I found before knowing the name of the block.. a friend shared the recipe with me and it wasn’t all great even though this is a good beginner block.. not so with the instructions I used! lol  I love making the block and the finish.. but Best Press is definitely necessary!!!

In other news…

I got an underhand thimble from my friend Kathy!!!!  She found it at a quilt shop while visiting Michigan and at my behest mailed it while on her vacation!!!  lol  I am so blessed to have such a special friend!!!!

So cool this lightweight and thin plastic thimble is… this is a large and initially I thought it too loose… but it fits perfect actually… and the material is still thin enough that I can vaguely feel the needle 🙂

 Just call me happy!!!

Also happy that my daughter…

who has been sick all week with fevers, abd pains, and worsening headaches… has a diagnosis after a trip to the doctor and finally to the emergency room they figured out she had a urinary tract infection!!!  And was it bad!!!! So antibiotics we got and exhausted we were.. but we got it figured out is the important part… it wasn’t anything crazy… just a UTI!  Praise God for the little things for sure 🙂

Please keep happy thoughts headed her way as she recovers over the weekend 🙂

As for me… I am glad it is Sunday and time for some Slow Stitching so I am linking up with Kathy HERE!  You can check out the mini quilt she won in a raffle too!!!

So what are you working on this weekend??  I would love to hear about your accomplishments too!
Until my next update…

P > S>  New fabric is sitting in an unopened box just outside my sewing room… no movement is allowed to open this box of amazing and cool new fabrics for upcoming projects… until I finish Take 2 to a flimsy state… Border fabric has been ordered but all else was stash!  Yippee 🙂
