Whoop! Whoop! My exciting week :)

Hope you are having a happy end of the week and planning a fun fall weekend… Fall is official in just a couple days!ย  Temperatures a cooling a bit on Florida’s east coast and quilting is in full bloom… along with my back yard ๐Ÿ™‚

I finished quilting and sent this quilt to it’s owner.ย  She recieved it Tuesday ๐Ÿ™‚

Here it is in full view ๐Ÿ™‚

And here is a close up of the quilting on it… fairly heavily hand quilted ๐Ÿ™‚

She loves it and is sleeping under it as I write this ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Yipee!ย  Whoop!

Wanna know the specifics on this quilt???ย  Check out this post ๐Ÿ™‚

So what is next???

I started on my “sister quilt” as it has a sister … me and my bestie Connie made quilt tops together this summer and now I am quilting mine and she is also quilting hers… both by hand ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Whoop!ย  She is almost done with her quilting and I just started mine… they both have lots of love being sewn into them… read more on this quilt here.

And finally… I took a little shopping trip to JoAnn’s… got me lots of fun colors of hand quilting thread by Coats & Clark… YLI just doesn’t have enough color selection and this is my second fave thread …

I plan to use the lighter blue/teal on this quilt in all the white spots… follow along and see what happens ๐Ÿ™‚

Planning to link this finish up to Confessions of a Fabric Addict here & Richard and Tanya Quilts hereย  & Sew Many Ways here ๐Ÿ™‚
Hope you have a great weekend…

The 13 year UFO is Complete!

This finished quilt will belong to my bestie Connie when it is complete.ย  She started this quilt top 13 years ago as part of a class… now it is finished!

So we pin basted it with about 200 pins and some nice bamboo/cotton blend batting :).

Now it is ready to quilt!ย  I sunk into the super luxurious cotton cloth sandwich and finished quilting the first block on July 7, 2013… this fall is my goal for completion as that is the climax of the 13 years it has been unfinished ๐Ÿ™‚ย  We have binding cut and ready to go too so away I sew!

On August 8, 2013 I am over half done with the hand quilting…

I am loving every minute of it… quilting has been added to make it more densely quilted… I am using white and yellow YLI thread in 40 wt for the stitching ๐Ÿ™‚

On September 6, 2013 I completed the hand quilting including signature and date ๐Ÿ™‚ย  Just shy of 2 months to quilt this wonderful quilt made of wonderful fabrics ๐Ÿ™‚ ย  Whoop!!

On September 8 I completed the binding and washed it… but alas all the pencil marks did not come out … so I will try some Oxy-clean this week and plan to mail it on Thursday ๐Ÿ™‚ย  This post will show once the recipient has received it!ย  Yipee!

Don’t you love how good fabrics just wrinkle right into the pattern???

How about a close up ??? !!!

ย And then I had fun posing the quilt… on the hammock!

ย And on a chair ready to use!

ย But for now in a box it goes… to be shipped!ย  The recipient has only seen snatches of pics and no full sized pics as of yet… hope she enjoys this post as much as I did quilting her quilt top into a much loved quilt to have forever!

UPDATE!ย  USPS got it there in 2 days!!!ย  She LOVES it and is taking it to naptime with her… as she works night shifts ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a blessed week!

My latest quilting endeavor!

Well last night I finished binding the quilt I was working on and washed it but all the pencil marks didn’t come out ๐Ÿ˜ฆย  So off to buy some oxi-clean as I hear it will take out what remains of the pencil marks… I think after a few more washings the pencil would be gone as light as it is now…
See…

So while I work on that ENDEAVOR!ย  I am starting my next project which got switched from my initial intentions… but they all gotta get quilted so SISTER QUILT TIME it is ๐Ÿ˜€

We started with this “Picnic” pattern in a book my bff got from JoAnn’s using her 40% coupon ๐Ÿ™‚

We bought 3 jellyrolls and had scant amount left over… in this pic you can see mine has about 20 more blocks than hers as I wanted a bigger snuggle blanket and she wanted more of a lap quilt ๐Ÿ™‚

She laid hers out as the pattern called for after fussy cutting each block to bring them back to square… I left mine slightly rectangular and set them in a chain pattern.ย  Do you have a fave?

Quilting was easy on hers… she is using pearl 8 cotton in beige to quilt her cream based quilt.ย  I am using YLI 40 wt thread in white to quilt my white based quilt ๐Ÿ™‚ย  We both used cotton and bamboo batting… it beards a bit when quilting but hand quilts easily and is soft and cozy when washed sooo ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I am happy!

I am quilting mine with double lines going diagonally.ย  I got feedback from a facebook group I belong to called “Celebrate Hand Quilting” and loved this new idea!ย  I am using 2 needles at a time to keep my lines straight with no marking this time ๐Ÿ™‚

We pieced the tops together machine by machine on my back porch this summer… read more about that here.

So this week I plan to quilt away and wash away the graphite marks … what are your plans ???

My daughter had a friend over this weekend… I caught them playing in the hammock ๐Ÿ™‚

with Daisy!

Have a blessed week whatever you do!

Finally Binding!

Binding a quilt is like a walk down memory lane.ย  You think of all that went into this quilt and pray for the recipient of the quilt…

I love the corners the most!ย  Do you bind your quilts like this or use another method?

This time I joined my “ends” using a Missouri Quilt vid I found here!ย  My thoughts on this are…

IT ROCKS!ย  You can’t tell where I ended it ๐Ÿ™‚ย  No bulk and it turned out perfect just following the vid… and I do my corners like she does… see how nice they mitered ๐Ÿ™‚

Well from a little machine sewing….

The binding to the front with white quilters weight Coats and Clark thread to back to my fave YLI light yellow thread to hand sew it to the yellow backing… I am having a blast…

Walking down memory lane….

I started quilting this quilt 2 months ago today ๐Ÿ™‚

Pics of the washed and dried quilt will be coming soon… then off in the mail to the recipient it goes… the one who started it all 13 years ago putting this together.

Have a blessed weekend!

Quilting Complete!

Today I am happy to be at this point in the quilting process for this 13 year old UFO that I have been steadfastly quilting ๐Ÿ™‚

That is right… signed… dated… DONE!

I finished it in the morning light and it as so glorious I wanted to share with you ๐Ÿ™‚

Earlier this week I still had the corner to complete…

Then as I neared the corner I penciled in my plan for backstitching my name and date as requested by the owner of the quilt ๐Ÿ™‚

Finally getting to this corner seemed to take longer than the rest of the quilt but I MADE IT!!!

Whoop Whoop!

Linking this to Confessions of a Fabric Addict for her weekly Whoop here ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a blessed weekend!ย  I am off to bind and wash this quilt… Pics coming soon sans the pencil marks ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy Sunday!

Okay so against my parents wishes I don’t go to church traditionally… I am not opposed to churches but they are confining and all the people aren’t generally the greatest… but what I wanna share is the church I do attend… every Sunday ๐Ÿ™‚

It is my back yard!

My faith is strong and I teach my children the same way.ย  Once upon a time we went to traditional churches … in fact I grew up going to church every Sunday and Wednesday… now I rejoice in calling this place my home and my church… I talk to God all the time ๐Ÿ™‚

Earlier this week we were busy working in the yard… today we can enjoy the fruits of that labor but lets go back a bit to earlier week …

The blooming aloe found a new home in a partially shaded area of our back yard… out of the pot … a good trimming of the old and dead stuff and fresh cactus dirt … notice how happy the transformation has made this cactus in the first pic I posted….ย  but what did we do with that splendid pot my honey had made???

The big cactus sprouted 3 babies we found when my honey moved her… more fresh dirt and lots of room to roam and have babies for these guys…

We always water with a bit of root stimulator added to the water when we move plants… helps them get settled in ๐Ÿ™‚

Now that it is Sunday… lets take a look at it all now ๐Ÿ™‚

ย We added some dwindling cactus from our tall cacti to our aloe pot ๐Ÿ™‚ย  They look like they can all see the sun now ๐Ÿ™‚

ย And now the tall cacti have room to have water just dripping off their branches ๐Ÿ™‚ย  How lovely!

While we have been toiling to have a yard to enjoy and celebrate in this Sunday I have also been hand quilting… so far I am almost to the last corner and ready to bind.

Yahoo for a blessed week!

Hope you can find a place to worship today that makes you feel like Praising Him!

Tomorrow I will be posting a couple things for a online yard sale!ย  Come take a look tomorrow.

Learning to be more thankful :)

So I thought I was thankful for all I had but recently that thankfulness was tested and now I wonder if I really was thankful for all the little things God does to brighten every day for me if I start it out being thankful to him for just being alive!

Enough of that… just wanted to share… now on to some fun pics ๐Ÿ™‚

Our mexican petunias are loving their home under the bird house ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I love looking at them each morning as they open up to the morning sun.

ย Here are some sprouts of wandering jew we took off a thriving plant and have been collecting trimmings and giving some away!!!ย  until we had enough to fill a pot!ย  Don’t they look happy??!!!

ย I have been enjoying hand quilting and only have 13 spots left on my current project… and it is time to bind!ย  Yipee ๐Ÿ™‚

No pics yet as it is so close to being done I want to show you it in all it’s glory… 13 years in the finishing! ๐Ÿ™‚

I do have a pic of a way to package your quilts… this is a tip from the newest edition of Love of Quilting….

I think Joyce has a great idea… esp if you aren’t sure if the recipient doesn’t know how to care for their quilt when not in use… they have a holder ready from scraps from the quilt!ย  Cool Beans!!!

Hope you are having a happy hump day and I am glad you are there for me!ย  And yes I am thankful for each of you!

Have a blessed week!

I have missed my bloggy friends :)

2 1/2 weeks is too long not to blog… in celebration of getting back to blog land I updated my cover ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a recent pic of me in a shirt I really like ๐Ÿ™‚

The smile took some convincing… to not blog about me and my life for 2 1/2 weeks is a lot!ย  I have been a two to three time a week blogger for over a year!

One highlight while I was off the grid was that we rescued a turtle from certain danger on the path he was on…

So we watered him up as he was shy and we couldn’t tell if he was okay or not… but look at him!

ย We rehomed him to a neighborhood lake where he would be out of harms way!ย  Yay ๐Ÿ™‚

And there is always good therapy to be found nearby at the beach…

I really do love being only 10 minute drive from this ๐Ÿ™‚ย  That is my dd in the water playing!ย  She has aย  blast playing in the waves and I have a blast watching her.

The aloe blooms are gone and no insects came to enjoy them… so soon this aloe will get trimmed and replanted somewhere it can enjoy itself and heal from the rough life it had before we came around.
ย
I haven’t stopped quilting… last week I rounded the 3rd corner on this beauty!

Here is one of my fave fabrics and some close up of my quilting ๐Ÿ™‚

I really enjoy hand quilting…

If you enjoy quilting by hand instead of machine you should request entrance to the greatest show on earth… a worldwide group of handquilters are uniting on facebook.ย  The work I see there encourages me every day and there are answers to so many questions… Celebrate Hand Quilting request for entry as this is a closed group and you have to request entrance by clicking here you can see our header this week and request entrance to this group.ย  There are almost a thousand quilters right now that are members from all over the world!ย  It is so fun to show and tell hand quilting… some hand piece but all hand quilt what they show.ย  Most is much more refined that my quilting… lol!

If you are interested in a smaller low key group of weekend quilters by machine or by hand check out my facebook group called Patchwork Friends here… we have show and tell too but not daily ! lolย  But it is a great group for newby and not so new quilters to get together and chat!

Please pray for me to be the decision maker that God and my family need during this time and I will try to write you at least twice a week from now on!

Thanks and have a blessed week!

What has been going on around here! Whoop !!!

I get one whoop today for reaching the SECONDย  corner of the quilt I am hand quilting… it is a quilt a friend of mine had in the depths of her closet until she recently finished it and we pin basted it and for over a month now I have been handquilting to get to this point….

So this quilt will have 2 labels… this is one showing when it was started and by whom… she only wanted her first name on it ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I plan to put my name and the year I finish quilting it (hopefully 2013!).

Meanwhile we have changed the kitchen a bit and have taken out part of the wall leading into the kitchen.. really opened it up to the house more…

Also we have taken down the wallpaper in the main bath and my honey is currently working on the drywall and mudding that needs to be done before the kids are let loose to paint it!ย  Yay ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you have a blessed weekend … what do you have to whoop about ???

Whoop! All the white spots on this quilt are finished!

Currently I am working on the 13 year old unfinished quilt for my bestie Connie… Wednesday the 17th I finished hand quilting all the white spots on the quilt using yellow quilters YLI thread ๐Ÿ™‚

ย Here was the quilt before I started hand quilting… it is a queen sized throw quilt ๐Ÿ™‚

Also I have now started using YLI white on the colored areas!ย  They look rockin awesome already… and I just started…

Connie pieced this quilt so perfectly my stitches by hand are flying through this quilt ๐Ÿ™‚
