Candle Mats Finished via Slow Stitching!

As I was working out my Wish Upon a Vintage Star Wall Hanging layout I started looking for a template I bought for the next project I had planned.ย  WELL…

I looked and looked… my honey looked and looked… finally I caved and decided it was time to go buy another to do the pattern I had in mind… so JUST before we left my honey looked one last place I had already searched SEVERAL times and HE FOUND IT!!!

So I snapped this shot as I look through my camera a lot when choosing fabrics… I was sooo happy to find this template to make these candle mats as a nice Christmas present for my mom & dad ๐Ÿ™‚ย  The pattern is called Periwinkle Mug Rug by MSQC or just click THIS link to go to it on Youtube!

So I got one put together… and got so excited at how quick and easy it was that I made up the second one I had cut out to be just the same ๐Ÿ™‚

Here to the right is a pic I took of the 1st one put together on the right and the second layered up.

Jenny calls for thin iron on fleece but I just used some thin cotton batting I had leftover from a quilt and cut it to match the top I had made… turned that all over faces together with the backing and sewed it up like Jenny shows…ย  this worked great and decreased my stash not my pocketbook!

I chose to sew up the hole for turning and did so before starting to hand quilt this cute candle mat…

And before you know it the hand quilting I started this morning…

ย was completed and washed and dried…

But something was missing… no tag for something like this so how to sign my work???

ย With an archival quality fine tipped pen I signed this piece above.. and because my daughter was sweet enough to help me some with this project…

She added her “BC” to the back as well!

Now they are ready to show off!

The finished Candle Mats measure 11″ across at the widest point.ย  They are very easy to put together and all you need is the vid, template and a bit of fabric you like.ย  I machine pieced with Aurifil thread 50/2 and hand quilted using YLI 40/3 natural.

Because of all my slow stitching this weekend I am linking this up with Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching HERE.

Also, because this is fun and easy I am linking to Karen at Sew Many Ways HERE!
Now to get back to my wall hanging and get it into a flimsy to layer and quilt! ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a happy Sunday all!

Good Friday to ya!

I am on the lookout for Betsy.. she still has to claim her winning fat quarter from this comment!

If anyone knows Betsy… I sent her an email and haven’t heard back… if unclaimed I can redraw or give away later ๐Ÿ™‚

As for my title today… I just couldn’t put “happy” before the title as this is a somber day in Christian history… before the celebration of Easter Sunday is “good Friday”.ย  This is actually the day we remember the death of Jesus on the cross… so no happy there.. but I have plenty of HAPPY to share!

Yesterday I got to see Jenny Doan of MSQC (Missouri Star Quilt Company) fame!ย  I want to a trunk show she had at a LQS near me ๐Ÿ™‚

Here she is showing off a quilt I bought her template for… making these with a charm pack… isn’t it cute!

And I got her signature…

On my latest copy of Fons & Porters Love of Quilting mag… ๐Ÿ™‚

I sure will have happy quilting Jenny!ย  Thanks for the encouragement!

Jenny’s husband held her quilts.. she showed about 30 quilts in 3 hours ๐Ÿ™‚

It was lovely to meet such a piecing mastress in my own little part of Florida.. it was just a 30 minute drive to see her ๐Ÿ™‚ย  If you know me… you know piecing is what I need help on most! lolย  And the best part is it was paid for as an early birthday present from my bestie Connie!ย  She was supposed to go with me but had to change her plans … then another friend was gonna join me but her husband is ill… so I mustered courage and went alone and had a blast!!!

After consulting with my friend Wendy… I bought this book an it came in yesterday too!ย  I found it on Amazon for under $20 to include shipping!ย  SCORE!!!

ย This is just a sample of over 500 pages of quilting design ideas and directions on how to blow this little but thick book up for printing off the pattern to make a template!ย  Love this ๐Ÿ™‚

I have some quilts coming up that I am lacking imagination on their quilting design… I think this book is just what I needed to flip open and become inspired!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Meanwhile… I have 6 blocks, 7 feathers and 2 cornerstones left after I finish this duo…

I am loving my honey working next to me with his little oil can… it came inside Fracis’ case ๐Ÿ™‚ย  He uses it to oil machines he fixes up to sell now that I have 3 great machines to fill all my needs!

Currently he is designing a universal cabinet for all vintage japanese and american machines of the 1940’s and 1950’s… many machines are now sold without cases… his plan is to make new cases for the ones we have to sell and then offer just the case once he has worked out all the kinks.

I am very excited for this project of his… as I slowly stitch away on his quilt! lol

I have also been planning a quilt and started collecting fabric for a 95 x 95 New England Patriots quilt…ย  It will be light silver grey, navy and red, with red Patriots team fabric in it in star form!

This is just a rough idea of it and how I design many of my quilts ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I can’t afford the fancy computer program and love using a pencil and paper to see my designs come to life…

How do you design.. do you use a program, draw it out, or just go for it and have that knack???

Linking this HAPPY post to Whoop!! Whoop!! time at Sarah’s Confessions of a Fabric Addict here!
