Quilting ` Cheaper than therapy :)

A friend posted this by Fons and Porter on her facebook feed.. it rang true to me to share it with you and share what has been going on in my world…

so while I continue to work in Kimber’s Memory Quilt.. the blue tshirt block… I have been pondering my next projects.. then everything just came together for me to start on Kaydence’s quilt.  Kaydence is my 4 1/2 month old granddaughter who lives in Tennessee.. when she was about  2 weeks old the house she lived in with my son and his wife burned down… luckily no one was home  but they lost the quilt.. and I have been pondering a replacement.. after chatting with my dil Keashia at length a new quilt was born from my stash!!!

Here is a close up of the block I am doing… called Anita’s Arrowhead most properly… this quilt will be called for now Kaydence’s Baby Quilt ~ Take 2 🙂  I may just say Take 2 for short though ! lol

The instructions I had to make this block were not really complete in nature… so I won’t offer a link but if anyone is interested … I COULD DO A DEMO of how quick and easy this block is to make so you can make your own!! 🙂

Let me know if you are interested in this option !!!

Linking this post a day late but should be okay to Sarah’s WHOOPing Fun Friday Linky HERE

So in order to sew in my sewing room.. I needed to clean up a bit… here is what I walked into…

And here is how I rearranged things a bit… does take room away from my honey’s side of the room but I needed to grow a bit in my space to make several upcoming tops 🙂

Since I took this shot I have moved the queen anne stool in the corner that my honey just recovered to the cutting area… it can float between there and Zena my 401a…

So Gloria is the star of my show right now, my 301a… she is my piecing machine stuck next to my design wall.. and there is a shared ironing station between the machines… 🙂   I love this arrangement and I love sitting in the bankers chair while sewing on Gloria!!!

Recently my son posted a pic someone snapped of he and Kaydence… so I took some pics from a recent photo shoot with my son and his step son CJ and..

 Made this!!!

I may print these out and send in Christmas cards this year.. if I send any! lol

For now I am going to make some more arrowhead blocks and work on the blue tshirt block hand quilting.. until I can post again..

Happy Hump Day ~ Feeling Accomplished :)

This morning I woke a bit early but quite awake and ready to tear into my newly arranged sewing room… first I had to take care of a cup of coffee though! lol

… And get some hand stitching in 🙂 I am now working on this block of Kimber’s Memory Quilt.. and a few days ago became inspired to do something with her label…
I don’t have a picture before the continuous border was added… but here it is ready to be appliqued..
then I realized this needed “special quilting” on it.. so I pulled out my fave book of quilting ideas and found this..
But I really wanted a rope or chain that would fit on this narrow border ( once appliqued!) … so I searched “rope line drawing” on Google… I found this..
Perfect.. I printed it out and put on my light board to make sure it would work then traced it onto my fabric…
Now I marked it with a VERY fine blue spritz marker as I am waiting for good blue markers to arrive via mail.. lol!  But here is the design on the block …
Can you see it??
The center block is 2″ and the outer ring will be 1 1/2″ finished when appliqued in place on the right lower corner of the quilt….  my plan is to just unpin this section.. add this to the top.. cut out the back fabric bulk… quilt these lines and spritz away.. we shall we!!! lolololol
About the time I got done working on this label.. the doorbell rang and CJ came to play for the day.. his mom is having surgery today so please send your happy thoughts her way 🙂
And then the other day I was scrolling facebook and saw a quilt I remembered…
Here is a Project Pink update..
Rebekah was my Project Pink focus last year…Recently on facebook and she posted this..
and spoke of how grateful she was to have this quilt.. that made me sooo happy 🙂
Have you ever received fun feedback on a quilt when you needed it for another project??? lol!  This years Project Pink recipient hasn’t contacted me back as of yet.. but I sent her a small gift and card asking her to be my penpal and sharing some about me 🙂  So continue to keep her in your thoughts too.. her name is Sarah.. she is also young for breast cancer.. so it seems right now these are the ones God is sending me!
Okay, time for me to get more accomplished.. CJ is currently napping! lol
Have a blessed rest of your day and thanks for sending happy thoughts up for these requests 🙂 …

Lovin’ me some slow stitching on Sunday :)

I find this time of year very INSPIRATIONAL!!  For instance I saw this…

Beautiful hand stitches by my fb friend Andi Perejda.. she teaches a (the only actually) hand quilting class on Craftsy… I have requested an advanced course taught by her.  She encouraged me to contact Craftsy and ask for this… and in return I got a response saying they would consider offering it soon!!!

So I took the above inspiration… and drew blue lines that spritz away after quilting … for my next block on my current project…

and got to work using the same thread I have used on the rest of this project.. YLI in white 🙂

Here I am about halfway done…

And here it is back in my hoop for a bit better picture…

So finishing this block is my goal for the day!!!  Do you have a goal for your Slow Sunday Stitching??  Join me at Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching right here!

This block is very meaningful to the receiver… and my goal was to give each block of it a life of it’s own.. brought together with my hand stitches in white YLI 40/3 thread!! 🙂  I think it is working 😉

I currently am working on this block located on the bottom left of this quilt… once done I will only have the 4 blocks and remaining sashings on the right side of the quilt!!!  Yippee 🙂  I am loving this project since seeing Andi’s block above and seeing the possibilities… even though this is not quilted as heavily as hers … I am really having to pull myself back from quilting parts more than others! lol

Linking this Crafty and Creative post to Karen’s Sew darn crafty Linky Party!!!!  HERE
On the Grammy front this week I have updated pics of both my precious grandbabies to share with you… here is Kaydence…

What a cute face to wake to on Saturday morning… this pic was taken Friday night.. she is just over 4 months old now!!!  My how time flies 🙂  She is the perfect mix of her mom and dad too 😉

And closer to home.. I got in a photo shoot featuring my grandson CJ!!!

Here he is with his Papa and Mom… such a happy addition to our family for sure!!  He will be 16 months this week… and is just like his shirt says… sooo handsome!!! lol

Now onto a more serious topic…

Do you do anything for October to celebrate breast health or lack of it??  October is Breast Cancer Awareness across the globe!!!

Come back later this week to see what I do to celebrate October in Pink!!!

Hope you come back and see me then!  Until my PINK POST…

Happy Friday :)

Hello my bloggy friends… glad I haven’t been gone so long this time 🙂  Hope you are having a Happy Friday in your part of the world!!!

Although it doesn’t show in the shot above… I am about 3/4 finished with the crazy triangle background stitching on this cute sunshine!

This is all part of a memory quilt I am hand quilting for a dear friend from her daughters clothes… her daughter died suddenly several years back…. she is now ready to enjoy the clothes instead of store them…

So here is the top me and my bestie Connie put together this summer… once I finish this beautiful sunshine.. penned by Kaylie just weeks before her death… I will have 5 blocks left to quilt and some sashings too… then onto the borders 🙂

I am hoping to have this done in November as I have other things in my quilty life that need attention too… but this is taking first place currently and until I reach the borders I really can’t focus on anything else… my friend needs this quilt to snuggle her daughter again!!!

While I am quilting this fun quilt… I have found a new series on Netflix…

And having a teenage daughter .. it is very appropriate and has given me great communication ideas for her already and I am only 5 shows into the first season and there are about 7 seasons to enjoy on this show!!! Yippee 🙂

Have you seen Gilmore Girls?  It is a TV series from 2000 to 2007 about a working mom and her academically blessed daughter and their lives together… being a single mom myself now I am relating to a lot I see on the show… but more than that I love seeing a healthy mom/daughter relationship… hope that doesn’t change as the series progresses!

Linking the quilty parts of my post to Confessions of a Fabric Addict blog… Sarah is also hosting a GREAT GIVEAWAY TODAY!!!  HERE 🙂
On a sad note my favorite bracelet that I wear every day finally stretched until it broke the other day… I felt naked without it.. well God led me to a replacement one and it came in the mail this week!

Tah Dah!!!!

I have kept what pieces I could from the broken one.. so one day when this one breaks I will mix them together and have them restrung at the local jewelry shop… and not let it get stretched out… will be the best of both then!  For now I am really enjoying my new glasses, new bracelet, and new hair do!  All is good in my fashion world! lol

CJ hasn’t been coming by as frequently lately… but he did stop in once this week…

Isn’t he a cutie!!!  I love my grandson soooo much!!!!

And I made him his fave breakfast…

Grammy’s homemade oatmeal and some fruit just the right size for his fingers to feed himself with! lol

We played with some books my bestie Connie had sent and he played with toys a bit too.  He makes me smile no matter what mood I am in when he stops by!

I hope to finish the sunshiney block today and move down to the bottom left corner and work on the Brewers block next… that and some house chores that I have been sadly lacking in getting done is what is on my to do list this weekend… How about you??  Are you having a Happy Friday too???

Have a blessed weekend… and remember to…

Whooping a NEW BEGINNING!!!

Hey there from my sweet grandkids…
From my home… here is CJ at 14 months old….

And via Facebook and Tennessee here is sweet Kaydence I have yet to focus my camera or kisses on yet! lol  She is 2 months already too!!!

It has been a while since I have had a post that made me wanna whoop really… at least around a Friday! lol  Cue Sarah at Confessions of a Febric Addicts Friday linky party… check her out HERE!

So what am I whooping besides the worlds cutest grandkids a Grammy could ask for??? lol

My new beginning quilt I showed you here last week

… and in this shot I was ready to quilt on my new desk my honey made me too!

Well…. I love the quilt and I love Love LOVE the desk!!!  It rolls and it is a nice large 16″ x 42″ top… my honey picked out all the wood special for this project and the casters work great on the tile floor too!  It has a shelf on the bottom for current supplies and for a place or me to prop my feet when I am in depth quilting 🙂

Superb is my review of having a desk to set my hoop on and use to work off of! 🙂  Love it for my style!  Home Run Honey 😀

As far as my progress… it has been stellar too…

Here is the center block… about 16″ x 24″ background block size… it is a rabbit jumper from when Kimber’s daughter was about 18 months old…

Here you can see some of the blue lines I haven’t sprintzed out but you can see the design better this way… all lines are gone now though ! lol  This tshirt was one of Kimber’s favorites… she said her daughter was truly a little chatterbox! 🙂

And here is how I start each outfit… with a picture and add drawing on my iPad.. not sure i I endorse any program for this topic yet… Do you have a fave one that draws easily on photos… and lets you type in a title like I have done here????

This dress above is one of Kaylie’s baby dresses.. note we were able to leave the buttons on the dress front during piecing and my quilting plan includes accentuating them.  See… 🙂

Also this week I tried my first paper pieced block…

Yes, it turned out nice.. but boy is it a waste if you are tight on fabric! lol

Also it took me over 2 hours to produce this block after watching a long vid by Carol Doak.

I do like her reasoning and methods.. but it isn’t fun like I like quilting to be for me… I have 3 more blocks to do like this but different “bird” colors…. lol!  We shall see how long that takes 🙂

Another Whoop to share during this last week was that my recent finish wall hanging was featured as the header of one of my facebook hand quilting groups… I don’t frequent it much anymore as it has gotten large and more impersonal.. but I enjoy the eye candy…

Imagine how amazed I was to be the giver of the candy for 24 hours of show!  Whoop!

In closing… here is one more pic I found of Kaydence.. taken by a photographer…

Doesn’t this shot just make you want to smile! 🙂  It sure does me !!!

Have a blessed weekend and until my next post…

Bordering FUN!

Well… as soon as I quit lamenting over the weekend about how bored I was with doing the repetitive center quilting on this wall hanging… I got to the border and FUN jumped back into this project !!!!

 I am running 5 needles across at a time…

 Check out this close up…

I am using Valdani perle 8 and perle 12 weight threads in this border with a dash of light grey 12 wt DMC, and some black YLI 40/3 for the edge basting stitch…

Finally this morning I caught this shot!  I am already 1/3 of the way around this border in under 2 days!!!!

Here is how the quilt will hand on the wall… this is 1/4 of the whole quilt for reference… each bulls eye is 7 1/2″ finished 🙂

To go along with this great wall hanging… Connie also has sent me the beginnings of a table topper or table runner from one I found on eBay but missed out on winning…

Here is the one Connie made me with the leftovers from the wall hanging above…

This measures about 15″ currently… and this is my plan now for it…

You see I always love making things my own design… so I like skinny logs better than fat ones but love the big squares set on point for the french in this braid design.

I will have 2 logs to each square… then bind it in the same I bind the wall hanging with I think.. we shall see what I have left after piecing this… all my logs will be the homespuns… but the squares will be regular quilt fabric for some stability! lol  This is all still in the planning stages as I am making fast progress on this now!!!

And you know what that means!!!  Soon I will be hand quilting Kimber’s memory quilt!!! Yippee 🙂

I am linking all this quilty progress.. and the quilty ideas too! lol to Kelly’s NTT (Needle and Thread Thursday)!!!  Come see what others are linking up HERE… she is a fun quilter and always has fun people linking up interesting things.

Before I close… I had a video to share this week… My grandson CJ is officially WALKING!!!  But I couldn’t figure out how to post a video from my iPhone to my blogspot blog.  I am just not techie! lol  So here is a still shot from the video I have to share with you today 🙂

He is 13 1/2 months old now 🙂

Thanks for joining me today!  And whatever you have planned remember to…

Bulls Eye Wall Hanging… almost there!

Can you believe it… I started this 2 layered batting wall hanging back in June … soon after Connie sent it to me (early birthday present) … back when we thought I would have it done by July! ha ha 🙂

I do think I will see an end to this project in the next week or two though as all that is left after the center is complete…

… is to quilt the border surround that is already marked… bind and put a label and hanging sleeve on it.  Yippee!  Light is bright at the end of this tunnel 🙂  I am currently on bulls eye #15 out of 16 total!! 🙂  Yahoo !!!

I have been dreaming of quilting Kimber’s memory quilt a lot this week.. I am ready for some fun quilting without the layers of thickness to sew though… don’t get me wrong… the clothes will make

me keep out my hemostats for thick seam moments… but most of my quilting these is planned very differently.. that one I will quilt each block how IT looks best 🙂

CJ came over a couple times this week..

That was definitely fun !!!

My daughter is taking 2 classes in summer school this month.. she finished and passed 1 class over the last 2 weeks… now to finish and pass the second class next 🙂

So as I slow stitch today I want to link up this excellent progress with Kathy for some Slow Sunday Stitching 🙂  Come on over and see what other slow stitching is going on around the globe!

Until my next post…

Bulls Eye Progress and a Kaydence Sighting!!!

Let me start with the Kaydence siting.. I got these from facebook on Father’s day and love this shot they shared…

Then I saw is a great 3 week old shot… mom is reading to her darling daughter.. isn’t Kaydence beautiful!!!

And I didn’t do any editing to these because I love them as they display them and share them… hopefully professional shots will follow soon enough! lol   Kaydence siting are becoming like seeing the Princess herself I think! ha 🙂

And on Thursday I got to see my Prince CJ!!!

He is just so much fun to play with and so easy to keep!!!

Okay … enough gushing grammy stuff..

I did manage to get some hand quilting done… last weekend I was on block 4 of this quilt and this weekend I have made it to block 8 of Rustic Bulls Eye wall hanging…

Here is block 7 completed…

Loving the texture this adds!  It will really rock the wall it adorns when finished for sure!!!

Linking this post to Kathy’s Slow Stitching Sunday… will add the link when the linky opens right here 😉 …

Here is the 8th block with this gorgeous Valdani perle cotton, my hemostats, big needle and thimble… all the accoutrements to fulfill this job… except I let out my needle threader that is VITAL! lol

Connie comes tomorrow… we will leave out about 8 am to meet her at the airport a couple hours away.. I am VERY excited to see her and spend 5 wonderful days making a quilt for a friend who is grieving the loss of her daughter and is in need of the comfort of a handmade quilt… here are some of the clothes we will be using from her daughter…

Kimber’s daughter was 8 years old when she left this world suddenly after getting ill… it was heart wrenching for Kimber.. and these are her fave memories that remain… this is not to be a somber quilt but a bright blue and bright pink lively loving quilt..

Want more details… stay tuned 🙂  You will know more as this quilt develops during Connie’s visit… this is our project during her visit.. and some hand stitching time of course! lol

So what are you up to this weekend?

Hope you can make sure whatever you do you take time to …

Rustic Bulls Eye wall hanging update and MORE!

Wowee!! It has been a busy week here at Casa Del Loro… I finally got a proper 1 year old shot of CJ

This is their fave shot of the 3 of them… my son DL, CJ and CJ’s mom Kayla… she made the letters spelling out his age too!

Then I played with it on my iPad and came up with this….

Doesn’t show mom, papa, or the “ONE” much.. but I do like it… and I love photo editing him too! lol

I have been hand quilting .. big stitch style on my Rustic Bulls Eye wall hanging…

Above it is in my hoop.. working on the 4th bulls eye.

And here is an overview of my progress…

Can you see a difference in those center 4 bulls eyes ???

Here is a texture shot and a close up in one…

I am really happy with how this project is coming along… homespuns ravel… especially in this application… but this will have fond memories and be versatile with all our home.. so all this time spent quilting through 2 layers of batting is worth it right??

I am dedicating this quilty part of my post to Kathy’s Slow Stitching Sunday HERE!

My honey finished the living room wainscoting process.. pictures will come next week but we are very pleased with the end result and how quickly we have acclimated to it just being there as part of our home 🙂

He has been working on featherweight sewing machines this week…

And my friend Debbie dropped in with her furry friend Tebow 🙂

Tebow is camera shy but Debbie got caught up in the excitement and let me snap this shot for my phone 🙂  Now I can see her lovely face when she is calling!!! 🙂

I have also been working in the background on Kimber’s memory quilt… and my secret project too!!!

So much going on here… and only so much time to share it all! lol

Have a blessed week ahead… I am counting down 7 days now until Connie comes for a 5 day visit!!!

Do you have any plans for the summer??

Rustic Bulls Eye ~ 1 block done :)

 And I am loving it!!!!

My new project and some of my tools for the job at hand! lol

You see… once upon a time I had an idea that I couldn’t make come to life.. but my friend Connie had the patience and the book… and had taught classes even using this pattern as a full quilt…

Well I wanted a wall hanging of it… I want if to use in my kitchen for now

and maybe somewhere else later… it is a very versatile piece for my home… could even fit my foyer which has some minimalist decor! lol  Look for yourself!

So she made the wall hanging and mailed it to me… I put it up on my design board and played on a few apps on the iPad until I had this little mock up of Rustic Bulls Eye 🙂

Yep.. I decided it needed borders to breath then a darker binding… add some buttons for effect and quilt using Perle cottons 🙂  The circles of the bulls eyes are homespun but the varying gray backgrounds are quilting cotton… from our stashes and her LQS 🙂

So earlier this week I got busy and added mitered borders using this GREAT youtube vid !

then I marked it… here is the stencil I chose for my border and I mimic the corner design where the center of each line is…

wait til I get to my ideas on this border!  You will LOVE IT!!!!

Then I sewed on the buttons so all the varigated perle cotton in red/pink was knotted to the flimsy only on the front.. my thought on this is that even though it does create something to hang your thread on it won’t tuft into the batting layers… yep… layers… I am using one cotton batting layer and one wool batting layer so this baby is extra thick to sew on by hand!!!

Above I have just started my circles in the circles 🙂 lol … but you can see the buttons and the threads and tools I am using in this shot.. I am using Valdani perle cottons and YLI 40/3.. I will DEFINITELY be using my new thimble … and HAPPY to have that … and needles I can thread … with the help of my handy needle threader (forgot to get a shot of it this time)!

Here is the border and buttons added… and all marking done ready to pin baste…

This was also my first time trying out my new Kwik Klip for closing the safety pins I use for basting…

There are great directions on the back side of the package too…

My review is very favorable.. I paid $6 or so for this little tool and it is sooo worth it to safely and quickly and without discomfort I pinned this 40″ square quilt myself with no help 🙂  Usually I recruit my honey or daughter to close the pins… not any more! lol

So far this is my progress in my hoop… just barely (remember I have 2 layers of batting all around to consider! lol).

One block is done … I have just recently rehooped and have started on the second one… I have 16 total and the border to do… this will be a FUN project though… and should go fast I hope 🙂  As fast as hand quilting goes! lol

Otherwise we have been busy with CJ…

Here he has cheerios hidden under his legs as we play peek a boo with them!  Fun times 🙂

Around Casa Del Loro my honey has been adding wainscoting to the living room to match the foyer I showed you above…

All the white is considered a trim moulding called wainscot. It is VERY labor intensive but other than industrial and engine maintenance my honey also is a finish carpenter by trade! I am soooo blessed!

Hope whatever you have planned for your weekend… makes you smile at least once a day!  And on Sunday come check out what Kathy is up to HERE for Slow Sunday Stitching ya’ll!

Until my next post,
